Killing in the Name, by Rage Against the Machine

Killing in the name of! Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses Now you do what they told ya Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge they’re the chosen white Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!

America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you’ve lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn’t belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don’t care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve.

Continue reading

Ext

Should you ever have to work on a web application again, just don’t think about it twice; Ext is an amazing piece of free software, light-years away from anything you’ve seen before.

Ext is a JavaScript framework, unlike any other in the market. It consists of a great mix of high level API documentation, coherent coding style, and excellent support, going beyond the mere lines of code. It is the first time in 10 years of web development that I really find a web platform worth that name.

Ext is more than a framework: is the DOM as it should have been in the first place.

How to export “shared” Google Reader items?

If you are an avid Google Reader user (like me) you must be surely be “sharing” items that you read, for you or for your audience; in my case, you can see my recent “shared items” in the sidebar at the right side of this screen.

But can you export these shared items to a file? Google Reader does not allow you to do that from the interface, but you can use the URL below to do that. Just replace {USER_ID_HERE} by the ID of your user ID (it might require your Google authentication), and you’ll get the last 10’000 items that you shared in the form of a long Atom XML file, that you can download and store.

Update, 2009-11-06: The URL has changed (thanks to Jordan Peacock for the heads-up!); try this URL instead now:

[source:php] http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user%2F{USER_ID_HERE}%2Fstate%2Fcom.google%2Fbroadcast?r=n&n=100000 [/source]

Update, 2009-11-06: Check out this project on Github, which has a set of scripts to help you download your shared items to HTML pages in your own computer for later reference.

Claim your Vista

By far, one of the greatest PR efforts of Microsoft, ever.

http://www.claimyourvista.com/

We introduce to you Windows Vista, which is the newest operation system of Microsoft. We consider Microsoft Windows Vista is the best operation system from all others ever created. Truly, Vista deserves to become the single operation system on Earth for blessing of all humanity, we believe, you know, that Microsoft deserves to be at the heard of the whole scientific potential of humanity and to lead it along the right way.

Very interesting is the security comparison between Firefox and Internet Explorer:

Internet Explorer: All private information is hidden well in different folders of Windows.
Firefox: The private user’s information can be easily accessible to any application, which entered the system

And finally, this very serious description of the open source and free software movement:

Linuxoids is the big, solid group of unequal people. Their single purpose is destroying of Microsoft. The software, which they are creating, has so low quality, that nobody is ready to purchase it. So they have to send it all over the world for free, justifying that thing by crazy discussions about humanity.

What can I say, I think I will go and “claim my vista” too, buy this “operation system” and leave my “linuxoid” life behind.

Now, the interesting thing is that the website is apparently running Apache on Linux
